"Service Above Self." While it is Rotary's motto, it is also how all first responders think. They put duty to others above their own safety.
In the military, they say "Run towards the gunfire." Firefighters willfully run into a fire to save others. Police, paramedics, doctors, nurses and so many others who serve have the same ethos. They overcome their fear to put others first. To get the job done.
It's another way to think of "First Responders." They're not only the first to act, they put others first.
So I'm sending this Valentine to all those first responders. Who make a difference in our lives by sometimes sacrificing their own to keep us safe.
