Rick King was well known within the Rotary community, celebrated not only for his leadership but also for his exceptional talents as an orator and an Irish tenor. With eloquence and sincerity, Rick wove heartfelt stories about Rotary into his speeches, often moving listeners to tears. His deep, melodious voice as an Irish tenor further showcased his ability to touch hearts and evoke powerful emotions.
Yet, amidst the seriousness of their roles, a light-hearted and friendly rivalry emerged between Rick and another past RI President, Cliff Dochterman, both renowned for their speeches. At Rotary events like PETS, Zone Institutes, and Rotary Conventions, they playfully competed over who could deliver the most impactful address. After one of Rick's particularly stirring speeches, Cliff humorously remarked, "Well, Rick, you might've set the bar high, but I've brought my ladder!" This camaraderie showcased the deep respect they shared and highlighted the sense of community within Rotary.
Through his speeches, melodies, and interactions, Rick King's legacy will forever be etched in the annals of Rotary history, reminding us of the profound impact one individual can have on a global community.
Mr. King was a truly inspiring speaker. I remember hearing him at PETS.
