The Kenya Water Global Grant is in the planning stages. We've got most of the funds raised from San Juan Capistrano Rotary sponsors and member plus additional funds from Fullerton, Los Alamitos/Seal Beach/Cypress, and Coeur d' Alene, ID Rotary clubs.
This $58k project will feature a borehole well with a solar powered pump filling water tanks. Water will be disbursed via a kiosk system and the funds from that will provide maintenance while funding other needs. The enterprise will be locally owned by the women's cooperative, in Likipia, Kenya, providing for future stability.
Locally, our Interactors, led by Lupe Silva, are in the process of completing AP testing, with many heading on to higher education with scholarships from SJC Rotary. The Rotaract club we sponsor at Saddleback continues to attract new young men and women who want to make a difference.
RYLA was once again a resounding success, giving a record number of teens an unparalleled leadership experience. This district-wide, the brainchild of SJC Rotarian Mike Darnold—who has been running it for more than three decades—continues to grow. SJC Rotary will be helping fund a similar experience for first responders in Tijuana as a joint project with Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary and a Rotary club there.
Marco Forster Middle School marathoners ran the L.A. Marathon thanks to support from SJC Rotary. Started by Ray Perez more than 25 years ago, these marathoners continue to amaze us with their dedication and perserverance.
All of the great work we're able to do is possible because of our great sponsors and supporters like Capistrano Valley Toyota, Laguna Niguel Hyundai, Capistano Mazda, Capistrano VW, Stephanie Frisch, The Oaks, Docent Brewing, Almquist, ARES and especially the San Juan Hills Golf Club.
It's also because of your participation in our upcoming fundraising events: The Adventure Van Expo and our signature SJC Rotary Golf Tournament. While you can pay at the gate for the Adventure Van Expo, the golf tournament signups are going fast.
SJC Rotary continues to thrive and grow; adding 11 new members in the past year. Their energy, skills and talents help us bring improvements to the lives of so many… while bringing more meaning to our own lives.
Water is lifesaving and clean water is scarce in to many locations. Since your doing water, may I recommend a great innovative source of purification.
